The Russian Football Union (RFU) has announced an expanded 36-man squad for the national team’s upcoming friendly matches in May and June, with Manchester United academy midfielder Amir Ibragimov and Zenit St. Petersburg striker Alexander Sobolev among the notable inclusions.
Ibragimov, an 18-year-old midfielder from Manchester United’s youth system, has made four appearances for the club’s U21 side and 11 for the U18 team this season. He previously represented England at youth level. His call-up marks a significant step for the young talent, who is now in line to feature for the senior Russian side.
Sobolev, the Zenit forward, adds attacking depth to a squad also featuring players like Alexander Golovin (Monaco) and the Miranchuk brothers. The team, managed by Valery Karpin, will play Egypt in Cairo on May 28, Burkina Faso in Volgograd on June 5, and Trinidad and Tobago in Kaliningrad on June 9.
