Rayo Vallecano returned to La Liga action after qualifying for the Conference League final, settling for a 1-1 draw at home against Girona on Monday in Matchday 35. Both goals came from substitutes: Alemão put Rayo ahead in the 86th minute, but Stuani leveled for Girona in stoppage time (90th minute).
The result leaves Rayo in 10th place with 43 points, just two points shy of the European qualification spots and only six points above the relegation zone. With four consecutive matches unbeaten, they now face a Thursday visit to 12th-placed Valencia.
Girona remain 17th in the table with 39 points, two points ahead of 18th-placed Alavés as they fight to stay up. Their next challenge is a home match against 8th-placed Real Sociedad on Thursday.
This draw also sealed the relegation of David Carmo’s Oviedo, who are rock bottom of La Liga and will drop to the second division.
